GALLERY TOUR | Saturday, NOVEMBER 2ND, noon - 1:30 PM
Three Expressions in the Visual Arts

SPARC, spearheaded by internationally famous artist and educator Judith F. Baca, and her team are in the midst of creating what, when completed in time for the Olympics, will be the largest mural in the world. The Great Wall of Los Angeles Mural/Education Project is one of Los Angeles’ true cultural landmarks and one of the country’s most respected and largest monuments to interracial harmony. SPARC’s first public art project and its true signature piece, The Great Wall is a landmark pictorial representation of the history of ethnic peoples of California from prehistoric times to the 1950s, conceived by SPARC’s artistic director and founder, Judith F. Baca. Begun in 1974 and completed over six summers, The Great Wall employed over 400 youth and their families from diverse social and economic backgrounds, working with artists, oral historians, ethnologists, scholars, and hundreds of community members. Originally ½ mile in length, it is now being expanded and will be double in size upon completion.

Nüart Gallery will be presenting a group exhibition of paintings. Each artist reflects a different approach to how they represent their visions and gives a wide range of styles, reminding us of how much there is still to explore.

Copro Gallery will have an October-inspired show featuring Chet Zar, Stephanie Inagaki, Emma Black, and Dos Diablos. This season marks the harvest and the letting go of what no longer serves us, and the beginning of the dark, cold winter—a time of year often associated with human death. Over 2,500 years ago, Celts believed the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred in October. They celebrated the ancient Gaelic festival Samhain (precursor to Halloween), a holiday that included human sacrifice. For these four exhibitions, the themes of Life, Death, Dreams, and Divine Decay are explored.
