July 15 - August 26, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, July 15, 5-7pm
Artist Talk: Saturday, August 5 at 11AM
Twenty-three years ago, L.A. artist Dan McCleary began a working relationship with the legendary print studio, Taller Sangfer in Oaxaca, Mexico. To this day, he continues making etchings and aquatints under the direction of Fernando Sandoval, who opened the workshop in 1988 and has worked closely with both international and Oaxacan artists including the late Francisco Toledo. Recently, McCleary has had retrospective exhibitions of these etchings at the USC Fisher Museum of Art and at Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO). Concurrent to this fruitful collaboration, McCleary also founded a non-profit art school called Art Division, for under-resourced young adults in Los Angeles (2010). His travels back and forth from L.A. to Oaxaca have resulted in a cross-pollination of artists between these two art centers, and especially, between Taller Sangfer and Art Division.
The exhibition, L.A. – Oaxaca will include the work of five artists, all exploring themes of Mexican culture as well as its integration in L.A. lifestyle and heritage.
