“The Lines”
Olympio’s practice blurs the lines between painting, music, and movement. As he notes, "The lines, the musicality of the lines, and the communication of the colors is something that I cannot do without; they set me free." His evolving visual language is deeply rooted in intuition, with the "faces" that appear in many of his paintings functioning as more than just portraits. These faces are reflections of an inner dialogue—a representation of identity and emotion conveyed through bold strokes and rhythmic forms. In this solo exhibition, Olympio’s exploration of these forms becomes a meditation on balance, tension, and release. The vibrancy of his color palette and the fluidity of his lines create compositions that are as intricate as they are spontaneous, engaging the viewer in a deeply emotional and sensory experience.

A Global Voice
Olympio, born in Lomé, Togo, is a self-taught artist whose work has received international recognition. After years in Paris, Olympio now resides in Los Angeles, where his practice continues to evolve, informed by his West African heritage and the cultural exchanges of his global journey. In 2022, Olympio was selected to exhibit at the prestigious Dakar Biennale, where his work was featured among leading voices in contemporary African art. His paintings have been shown at renowned institutions, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Latino Art Museum in California. In 2018, he was listed as one of the top ten artists at Art Basel Miami.

The exhibition at bG Gallery offers a rare opportunity to experience the ongoing evolution of Olympio’s work, as the artist continues to refine and expand his visual language. Each piece in this exhibition embodies Olympio’s intuitive process, combining the visceral power of abstraction with the narrative depth of figuration. The result is a body of work that challenges conventional understandings of artistic form, creating a space where painting becomes a performance, a dance, and a deeply personal expression.

Olympio’s work bridges the personal and the universal, offering audiences an intimate yet expansive visual experience. His compositions reflect an internal rhythm—a process he likens to music and dance—where the repetition of lines, colors, and forms creates a symphony of expression. As his work continues to evolve, this exhibition marks a significant moment in his career, where Olympio’s artistic journey takes yet another bold, transformative step.

Join us as we celebrate this unique voice in contemporary art, whose work speaks to the power of abstraction to communicate the deepest dimensions of the human experience.
