bG Gallery warmly invites you to Now and Then / Then and Now, a solo exhibition by Ralph Allen Massey. With a career spanning nearly six decades, Massey’s body of work explores ideas of iconography and pop culture, seamlessly blending contemporary fine art with playful imagery and characters. Now and Then / Then and Now includes works from a range of series, featuring the graphic imagery of nostalgic Pop Art positioned alongside vibrant portraits. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to glimpse into the private joys of men and women, allowing viewers to share in those intimate moments.
“In the past monks who had a sense of mission lived in seclusion in monasteries or wandered in the desert. They often took an oath of silence. My work is produced in solitude but is meant to be shared. Often it is based in absurdity or ironic humor. It acts as a protective shield for me as I poke fun at human foibles. Human society and nature deliver repeated blows to my armor but can't harm me as long as I find humor in it all. If I give others relief in sharing my point of view about the absurdities of human existence so much the better” -Ralph Allen Massey
