JORGE MIñO: Perfectly Synchronized
January 13 - March 9, 2024
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 13, 6-9PM
Lois Lambert Gallery presents Perfectly Synchronized, the most recent exhibition of work by photographer Jorge Miño.
Argentinian artist Jorge Miño reshapes ordinary architectural photography, converting static images into something entirely new and subjective. Miño transforms his photographs into physical objects full of life and energy, thus transcending the typical nature of photography. Miño liberates himself from the technical aspect of photography to investigate and push the creative boundaries and possibilities of the medium, seeking to deconstruct and reconstruct his perception of the world. Miño orchestrates the “destabilization of spaces to unleash imagination.”
Miño begins by taking a photo with his cellphone camera, capturing various architectural forms. These photographs are then layered on top of one another and digitally manipulated, until there is almost no record of the original photograph itself. Each image is purposefully abstracted to low resolution, with added grain to change what was once a high quality and crisp photograph into a new and more provocative image. Miño’s altered photographs are then printed onto thin PVC Sintra boards, which add subtle visual texture and a velvety finish to the final print.
While creating his artwork, Miño seeks to break many traditional boundaries of photography. He strays from the idea that a photograph is a single moment frozen in time, depicting one clear subject and existing within a rectangular frame. For Miño, these works represent infinite moments, multiple dimensions, and endless possibilities. Some of Miño’s photographs literally break out of the frame in irregular shapes, embodying absolute freedom and the perfect balance between chaos and order. “I create a world of possibilities only for those who are open to find it in my works. I want people to discover new meanings in each piece, to walk through it and let themselves be carried away by the images that they see.”
Jorge Miño (b.1973, Corrientes, Argentina) studied printmaking at the Escuela Superior de Arte Carlos Mores and assisted artist Guillermo Kuitca for nearly 24 years. Miño has exhibited his work at the Biennial of Curitiba (Brazil), Centro Cultural España (Buenos Aires), Museo de Arquitectura de Buenos Aires, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Museo Macay (Mérida, Mexico), Enlace Gallery (Lima), and Fifty One Gallery (Miami), as well as many other galleries in the U.S. and abroad.
