I first met Tae Hue five years ago in Paris.
I still remember being overwhelmed at the sight of her series of pointillist works featured at Salon des Beaux Arts 2017, an art competition held in Paris in December 2017.
Tae Hue is a rare artist who is capable of depicting her most private world on a cosmic level. It takes her five hours of meditation and ten hours of painting dots each day over a period of three months to create a single piece of artwork. Tae Hue’s art cannot be fully appreciated through digital images or articles; only the physical work has value. Indeed, her works can be said to be art par excellence. Looking at her art from a distance gives us an impression that is totally unlike the impression we get when examining it up close. Just as the Earth as observed from outer space looks nothing like the vast wilderness sprawling across the same planet, Tae Hue’s art presents us with infinite possibilities.
Curator Lee Ufan describes Tae Hue’s art as follows:
“To understand the relationship between the universe and life is at the same time to understand who we are. It is also to understand a kind of unspoken relationship that binds us to the universe. It is critical for all of us to appreciate the value and significance of life itself more deeply.”
Ever since I met Tae Hue in Paris, I have always dreamed of exhibiting her art in the United States. I am finally able to do that. At a time when the world is suffering from COVID-19 and various conflicts, it is my sincere hope that Tae Hue’s art, with its striking worldview, can provide everyone with some measure of comfort.
