Skidmore Contemporary Art

Richard Baker | A Colorful World

Exhibition Dates: February 5 - March 12, 2022

Opening Reception: Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 2-6pm

Skidmore Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the sixth solo show for Los Angeles based artist, Richard Baker. A Colorful World opens to the public on Saturday, February 5th 2022 with a reception for the artist from 2 – 6 pm. The exhibition will feature a vibrant new collection of Baker’s crisp, realist oil paintings. Skidmore Contemporary Art is located at internationally renowned creative arts complex Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, CA.

Richard Baker lives in Los Angeles and La Quinta, CA. His work reflects his personal lifestyle and interests—often focusing on activities of leisure. When asked what sets this show apart from his past work, the artist states “I have now made over 100 paintings—this body of work represents artistic growth in all areas for me including technique, materials and confidence in brushwork. My motifs are inspired by things that I see in my everyday travels. This particular work includes my travels to New York City, the Hamptons and my time spent in Los Angeles.” Baker’s process begins by capturing photographs of objects or scenery that he finds visually striking. He then takes these images to his studio where he uses them as a point of inspiration for his paintings. Known for compositions that contain vivid colors, sharp shifts in tonality and subtle geometry, Baker’s upcoming exhibition showcases the most mature examples of his work to date.

Skidmore Contemporary Art is located in Santa Monica at Bergamot Station Arts Center, 2525 Michigan Avenue, Suite B4. Gallery hours are Tues-Sat 10-5pm. For more information visit skidmorecontemporaryart.com, email gallery@skidmorecontemporaryart or call (310) 828 – 5070.
