SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS is pleased to announce their upcoming outdoor live auction of modern and contemporary artwork of all mediums on Sunday November 7, 2021 beginning at 1:00 PM at Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA after a 2.5 year hiatus.

Based in Santa Monica for 37 years, SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS is the longest running independently owned and operated boutique auction house in Los Angeles. This upcoming sale presents modern and contemporary works by mid-career and established artists of all mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, multiples and prints.

The lot list for this sale is comprised of works by John Baldessari, Henry Taylor, Betye Saar, John McCracken, David Hockney, Jean Michel Basquiat, Raymond Pettibon, Larry Bell, Ed Moses, Dennis Hopper, Llyn Foulkes, Robert Motherwell and William Burroughs. The auction will also feature a very rare Keith Haring silkscreen from 1986 in which he paid homage to and collaborated with Andy Warhol, portraying Andy as Mickey Mouse standing in a pile of money. This work was made in an edition of only 30, is signed by both Haring and Warhol and printed by Warhol’s renowned silkscreener, Rupert Smith.

Other highlights include an original drawing from 1951 by Joan Miró, multiple Ed Ruscha pieces including the silkscreen “Made In California” from 1971, and an original maquette drawing of the famous Olympic LA freeway mural from 1984 by John O. Wehrle, which is currently under restoration in preparation for the LA 2028 Olympic games.

There will be a spotlight on photography featuring works by Diane Arbus, Alex Prager, Melvin Sokolsky, Larry Clark, Mariko Mori, James Fee, Richard C. Miller, Wallace Berman, Garry Winogrand, Charles Britton and O. Winston Link and a section dedicated to Chicano artists Carlos Almaraz, Gronk and Frank Romero.

Additionally Santa Monica Auctions has illustrative and exciting works by Dr. Lakra, Margaret Keane, Barry McGee, Patrick Nagel and many more.

Unique to other auction houses, SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS accepts unique and rare works up until a week prior to the auction.

Gallery A5 in Bergamot Station Arts Center is currently housing a preview of the auction with new consignments being added daily. The continually updated online catalogue and all additional information including bidding options may be viewed at our new website : www.smauctions.com.
